Three Ways Groupon Can Help You Date Your Spouse

Three Ways Groupon Can Help You Date Your Spouse

Overdue

Before this week I’d never arranged for flowers to be delivered to my wife’s work place.

I have brought flowers home for my wife many times.  For a while I brought them about once a week.  But it had been a long time.  Too long.

It had been on my list of things to do for quite some time.  Many times I intended to stop on my way home from work and pick them up.  Life has been busy and work hectic.  I kept forgetting.

Groupon

You may have heard of Groupon but it is kind of new to me.  It is a deal-of-the-day website that features discounted gift certificates usable at local or national companies.

I have a Groupon app on my phone and have used it a few times to find restaurant deals.  We have had some nice dates and Groupon helped.

Three Ways Goupon Can Help You Date Your Spouse

1.        New Date Ideas

The first way Groupon can help is as a resource for date ideas.  Even if you never use it to buy a thing, Groupon is an excellent tool for generating interesting date ideas.

Here are a few ideas I gleaned just today:

  • Bowling
  • Photo shoot
  • Sleigh ride
  • Weekend Getaway
  • Ballroom Dancing
  • Theater
  • Spa  Massage
  • Golf
  • Paint Ball
  • Restaurant

The deals change from day to day and week to week.  This means there are always new deals and always new date ideas.

2.      Deals and Discounts

One of the reasons many couples don’t date more is the idea that it will cost too much.  Some dates are certainly more expensive than others.  However, dating your spouse should not break the bank.

The second way Groupon can help is by providing some pretty good deals and discounts.  Half price restaurant deals are common.  Many offers are even more steeply discounted than that.

3.      Idea to Action

The third way Groupon can help is actually the most important one for me.  Not only can you glean good date ideas and get good deals and discounts.  You can take immediate action – sealing the deal that a date is going to happen.

I’m not sure about you but I can tend to get bogged down thinking about what to do.

To purchase a Groupon for a date is a way of breaking that inertia.

Once the decision is made and I purchase the Groupon the date is as good as done.  There is no more wondering.  No more pondering.  The money has been spent and it is going to happen.

Flower to brighten her day
Flowers to brighten the day of the one who brightens my life.

Surprise, surprise!

So, about the flowers…

That morning I was berating myself for forgetting again to get flowers the evening before.  I had a brilliant idea: “Why don’t I look on Groupon for a flower deal?”

I did that and they had one, a half off deal for FTD flowers.

I bought it.  I then went to the FTD website, chose the flowers, scheduled the delivery and used the Groupon voucher to make the purchase.

The delivery was a total surprise to my wife.  She was stunned.  Her coworkers wondered what the occasion was.  It made her day.  And the fact that I was able to make her day – that made my day.

Helpful Tools

Giving flowers was not a “date”, per se, but it was certainly a way of me dating my wife.

Remember that the aim of a Spouse Date is to cultivate romance, intimacy and friendship with your spouse.

I found Groupon to be a helpful tool toward that end.

In the coming weeks I will be sharing other tools that I have found (and am finding) helpful.  Stay tuned.

Be sure to sign up for the Weekly Date Tips and Reminders (in the upper right hand corner of the screen) which, by the way, is a good tool in itself.

How about you?

What are some tools have you found to be helpful for dating with your spouse?

Love this idea! We have used Groupon or Living Social to try some things we might not have tried otherwise, like kayak trips and a visit to an historic inn. Would love for my hubby to get the idea of sending surprise flowers to my office!

I have never used Living Social but my wife has. I will have to check it out. It is good to give our spouse a nice surprises every now and then. Kayaking and going to a historic Inn, those sound like a lot of fun too. Thanks for sharing! Steve

I like setting up a few dates ahead of time when we have some extra cash. Everything is paid for or planned in advance. Details are done so no excuses! I did see someone post about a mystery date night dinner they purchased. They went out to dinner and it was a lot like Clue. Very neat!

That is a fantastic idea, Cassie! Not only does paying ahead of time seal the deal but there is time to build anticipation for what you are going to do together. Thanks for sharing!
