A few years ago my wife and I took a road trip out west. We went through the desert in Idaho and stopped at the Craters of the Moon National Park. I had never seen such a dry environment before.
We had brought our own food with us. For lunch I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The moisture in the bread was sucked out almost immediately. By the time I finished making my sandwich and started eating it was as if it had been toasted. The air was literally that dry.
Dreams are like moisture for our marriage
Sometimes the disappointments and difficulties of life work like the desert air on our marriages.
The moisture gets sucked out.
We forget our dreams.
We forget to dream.
It is time to dream again.
You have to dream before your dreams can come true. ~ Abdul Kalam
Here are three ways to get the dream juices flowing.
1. The Magic Lamp
Suppose you are given a magic lamp.
You rub the lamp and a Genie appears saying, “I will grant you three wishes for your marriage. Your wish is my command.”
What three wishes would you make to heighten the vitality and health of your relationship?
2. An Enchanted Sleep
Pretend you are placed in an enchanted sleep for five years.
While you are sleeping a miracle happens.
When you wake up, you look back in time and see that the best and most life giving aspects of your marriage relationship have been magnified beyond what you could have ever imagined.
What does your relationship look like? What kinds of things are you doing together? How is daily life different? How are you feeling?
3. You Be the Hero
In spite of being asleep (Alas, it was an enchanted sleep indeed!) YOU helped make your marriage miracle happen. You made the dream come true.
What kind of spouse could do that? What are the characteristics of the person who made this story come true?
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. ~ Henry David Thoreau
Take some time and dream again. Take steps toward your dream marriage.
These are especially great ideas to talk about on your next date!
What do you have planned?
