Remember Your First Date?

February 4, 2014 by Steve

Joy Tsin Lau date

Do you recall your first date with your spouse?

Chrissy and my first date was a double date with my sister and her future husband.

We went to Joy Tsin Lau, an upscale Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia. That date happened over twenty years ago.  It was the winter of 1991.

It’s funny what you do and don’t remember of events so long ago.

What I do remember:

  • I drove the four of us
  • It was very cold out
  • I had to pay for parking
  • We had a blast together
  • There were big fish in a big fish tank
  • The food was great
  • It was Chrissy’s first time at the restaurant but not mine

What I don’t remember:

  • What I ate
  • What we talked about
  • The ride to and from the restaurant
  • How much it cost

We have been on countless dates since then.  But that one is special.  It was our first.

We drove by Joy Tsin Lau this summer when we were in Philadelphia.  It is still there and we took the picture above.

What about you?  What are your memories of your first date?  What did you do?  Where did you go?  We would love to hear from you.

Hi Steve, The first date Curt and I had was at the Home and Flower Show at the IX Center. Things I remember are…running into someone we knew very well. It was cold outside. Curt offered to buy me a luggage set that I mentioned I liked. Sitting in the parking lot talking for hours. I don’t remember what we talked about, but we were the last to leave! And then we went to a coffee place in Berea and talked some more:)

That’s awesome, Laura! Talking for hours. Remembering the profound connection but not the content of the conversation. I think there is a lesson there for all of us. Connection goes way deeper and is much more important that just verbal communication. Thanks for sharing!
